Broken or missing sidewalks don’t just make our neighborhood look neglected—they can be dangerous. Cracks, gaps, and uneven pavement are tripping hazards for children, seniors, and neighbors with mobility challenges. Walkers, joggers, parents pushing strollers, and people in wheelchairs all deserve safe, smooth paths through our community. Fixing sidewalks is one of the fastest, most visible ways we can make Midway Hollow a safer, more walkable, and more beautiful place to live.
If your sidewalk is severely broken or poses a safety hazard (such as large holes or jagged edges), you can request a temporary asphalt patch repair from the City of Dallas at no cost. These repairs are quick fixes to reduce hazards while you plan for full replacement.
How to Request a Patch:
Call 311 or use the online form
Search for and select: Alley/Sidewalk/Street Repair - Hazardous
Describe the location and issue clearly (include photos if possible).
Tip: Only submit a 311 service request if it’s in front of your house. If the broken sidewalk is in front of a neighbor's house, talk to them about submitting the service request since they will have to approve of the temporary asphalt patch.
2. Apply for the City’s 50/50 Cost Share Sidewalk Replacement Program
Important Announcement about the Sidewalk Replacement Program.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works (TPW) has temporarily closed cost-share applications and acceptance of payments until after September 30, 2025. Due to high demand and popularity of the program, TPW is reassessing the program’s policy for improvements. To be added to the waitlist, please call (214) 948-4127.
If you have a neighbor that has a broken sidewalk, talk to them about the city cost share program, and help them submit a request. Click here for more info about the program. Sidewalks cost ~$10 per square foot to replace, but the city will cover 50% the cost (and 75% of the cost for corner lots). Most sidewalks are 5 ft wide, so to replace 10 feet of side walk will cost the homeowner about $250 and the City will cover the other $250 and do all the work.
3. Request the City Install Missing Sidewalks
For requests to install sidewalks where none exist, please contact Precilla Cardenas, Project Coordinator at 214-948-4125 (precilla.cardenas@dallas.gov). Precilla will develop a cost estimate and place your request on the City’s Need Inventory List as a candidate for future funding consideration. Funding is obtained through the bond program, which is roughly every 4 years (2024 is the current bond program approved by voters so the next bond program will be in 2028). Please note, that while a project may be on the City's Needs Inventory, it only makes it eligible for consideration for funding and not automatically included in the bond program. The more requests the city receives to install a missing sidewalk, the more likely the sidewalk will get installed.

Supporters of Walk Midway Hollow have submitted over 40 requests, and the City has scheduled 37 for installation as of June 2025! (scheduled projects shown below and on this interactive map)
